What is Victory In Europe Day?

WHAT IS VICTORY IN EUROPE DAY?

On May 8th, 1945, Europe erupted in celebrations worldwide as the allies had won World War two. Massive crowds gathered in major cities like London and Birmingham, and people sung and danced as war was finally over. Cheers and clapped could be heard all through the streets. It was a day of world peace and joy.

HOW WAS IT CELEBRATED IN BRITAIN?

In London, the royal family appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square was bustling with happy people dressed in red, white and blue. Winston Churchill greeted the jubilant crowds in pride as Britain and the allies had come out victorious against Nazi Germany. May 8th, (the day after World War two ended), was declared Victory in Europe Day, a national holiday in Britain, and celebrations spread across the Western world.

HOW WAS IT CELEBRATED IN BOURNVILLE?

The people of Bournville celebrated in the streets just like every other city on May 8th 1945. They engaged in many joyous celebrations such as street parties, dancing, and bonfires marking the end of the war in Europe. Cadbury's even gave every child in Bournville free chocolate biscuits as an act of kindness and hospitality.
