Mercia, late 800s.

Aethelflaed is the daughter of a king, the sister of a king and wife of a lord. History remembers the great men in her life, but what of her story? How much blood, menopausal sweat and tears must Aethelflaed shed to continue building the Midlands alone? Could this ageing warrior princess become the Lady or would using her head be her downfall?

Produced by Birmingham based theatre company Sold by Fate, Mother Mercia is a new piece written and performed by Paula Wharton.
