July gave us the hottest day and it’s been lovely to see the sun shining and people enjoying themselves in Selly Manor’s garden. The month started off with a sold out Heritage Talk and private view of the museum, we then went on to have performances from The Crescent Theatre and Riverside Performing Arts. We’ve always wanted a Shakespearean production so we jumped at the chance to host A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was also a refreshing treat to have 2 outdoor performances of The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. Both of these performances were enjoyed by over 250 people and received great reviews. Towards the end of the month the Angela Maloney Art Group took over Minworth Greaves to exhibit some of their artwork. Entrance to the exhibition was free and lots of people enjoyed seeing a range of painting styles- Our Learning Assistant adored the painting of a ruby Kings Charles Cavalier Spaniel.
We had a few important moments in July one of which was the ticket launch for Bournville Heritage Open day. We were all absolutely amazed when the free tours of the Almshouses and Bournville Carillon sold out within 2 hours so we’re really looking forward to 14th September…we have a feeling it’s going to be very busy here at Selly Manor that day!
Normal museum duties have resumed and we’re starting to give the museum a lot of TLC over the next few months to make sure it’s all ready to start school tours again in September. Finally, July saw us host 2 weddings, a children’s party and a charity event so all in all it’s been a very busy and warm month.
Roll on August and our summer holiday event! See you next time.
