Bournville Walking Tour
From 20 August 2021 at 2:00 PM
To 20 August 2021 at 3:30 PM
Cost £10 per person

Explore the rich history of George Cadbury's garden village of Bournville with a walking tour led by Daniel Callicott, Heritage Manager of Bournville Village Trust.

Following the building of the Cadbury factory in 1879 in Bournville, George Cadbury set about creating a flourishing community. George was a philanthropist who cared deeply about the working and living conditions of his employees and the people of Birmingham and acted to make improvements wherever he could.

Work on the first homes in Bournville started in 1895 and you will be able to see the care and attention that was taken with the arts and crafts inspired architecture and generous green spaces. Much of the tour will take in the collection of community buildings around the village green from the ancient Selly Manor, which was moved and rebuilt, to the beautifully distinctive Rest House, which is the focal point of the village. You will see the unusually ornate Quaker Meeting House, traditional shops and hear the bells of the Carillon. You will also be able to explore two of Birmingham's oldest buildings - Selly Manor and Minworth Greaves.

This walking tour takes place at 2pm on Friday 20th August 2021, and lasts for about an hour and a half. Tickets are £10 per person and include entry to Selly Manor Museum. We have future tours planned at 2pm on 16th July, 20th August and 24th September and booking is also available for these too.

Please keep an eye on the forecast as the tour will take place regardless of weather as long as it remains safe for staff and visitors. So please wrap up warm and bring a brolly.
